Professionals
teach kids art of Thai kickboxing
By A Gulf News Report
Muay Thai, the challenging martial art originating from Thailand,
is causing quite a stir in Dubai during Adventure Surprises
week.
At
malls around the city, children and adults are clamouring
for lessons, advice and demonstrations from a group of Muay
Thai experts commissioned by Dubai Police to hold workshops
all over the city as part of Dubai Summer Surprises' seventh
week.
Muay
Thai, or Thai kickboxing, caught international attention several
years ago, and has grown in popularity to become one of the
most sought-after martial arts in the world.
Originally
designed for the battlefields of Siam, Muay Thai has become
one of the most devastating fighting arts in the ring. It
uses only the most effective offensive and defensive moves
based on the eight limbs of the body - hands, elbows, feet
and knees.
The
team of experts teaching the art of Muay Thai this week are
hosting daily workshops in various city malls in a bid to
teach children the art of Thai kickboxing and also develop
their agility, skill and intelligence in executing the moves.
"Muay
Thai is one of those sports that appeals to both adults and
young people," said Captain Abdullah Bu Omaim, member
of the Adventure Surprises Committee at Dubai Police.
"It
was a perfect fit for Adventure Surprises, in the past we
have seen huge crowds clamouring to learn about this art rather
than just see a display."
Bu
Omaim went on to say that children will be taught the basics
of Muay Thai in at atmosphere of complete safety and interesting
learning.
The
trainers, who are very experienced and highly qualified and
highly respected in this art, will teach children in ways
that are easily understood and picked up.
